If you're a financial analyst, a Boston startup called MyRoar Inc. says you can. The bootstrapped venture is building a semantic search product designed to answer analysts' questions directly, like, "Is anyone backing this bond?" or "How many hedge funds are there in the U.S.?".

This year we also want to mention a newcomer in search, MyRoar. Formed by technical folks who understand the financial services market, MyRoar is a natural language question machine. They claim that their technology does not need to be trained like vendors InQuira and Q-Go; we're hopeful to do more with them this year so we can report back on our findings.

How the MyRoar Demo Works:

MyRoar’s demo is sitting on a small index of current news which is used to display how the technology works. Questions asked about items that have not been in the news will not produce good results as answers are not likely contained in our demo index.

At each level of filtering MyRoar provides the best search results available. The first level of results fall under “Exact Match” and are comprised of answers having the highest relevancy based on the full natural language question answering technology. The next level of results are, “Near Answers” which show the closest relevant results based on a combination of key word and natural language processing. “Near Answers” are displayed after any “Exact” matches that are found, and allow the user to find additional related results that may be interesting. The last level of results “Document Matches” show keyword only results.
